Through this nomination, announced in an event this Wednesday at the Club’s training ground, President Joan Laporta and FCB Foundation Director General Dr. Marta Segú have paid recognition to the charitable and humane side of Xavi, legendary former Azulgrana player and current head coach

Club President Joan Laporta and the FC Barcelona Foundation Director General, Doctor Marta Segú, have today taken part in the unveiling of first-team head coach Xavi Hernández as an FC Barcelona Foundation ambassador, in a ceremony held at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper. Accompanying them were members of the Foundation’s board of trustees, board of directors and management committee, as well as the captains of the first team and members of staff.

This nomination recognises the charitable and humane side that the current Azulgrana head coach has shown ever since rising through the ranks at La Masia to make his first-team debut. Over some 29 years making history as a Blaugrana player, he established himself as a legend of the global game and a Barça icon.

Xavi, during his playing days and now as a coach, has frequently given his time in support of a variety of humanitarian and social causes, actively collaborating with a host of FC Barcelona Foundation activities and programs.

A footballer forged in La Masia, the heartbeat of Barça and a veritable ‘school of life’, Xavi is Culer to the bone and embodies the Club’s values like no one else. And it is for that reason that the Foundation, Barça’s soul and essence, which contributes towards maintaining and promoting its most representative values (respect, humility, teamwork, ambition and effort), could not ask for a better ambassador.

Through this role, the Blaugrana legend strengthens still further both his Barça DNA and his commitment to support those who need it most. Since his time as a player, Xavi has been involved in innumerable Foundation functions, hospital visits, training-ground meetings with seriously ill children, messages for various awareness campaigns and recently an emotional meeting with Bruno, a severely disabled child who has earned universal admiration.
This ambassador appointment takes the FC Barcelona Foundation’s tally of eminent ambassadors to two: the athlete Àlex Roca, who exemplifies effort and overcoming adversity, came first when announced two years ago; and now comes Xavi Hernández, a symbol of work ethic, respect and discretion.
