This Monday, the Estadi Johan Cruyff at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper hosted the first open doors charity training session featuring FC Barcelona’s women’s first team. The event, organised by the FC Barcelona Foundation as part of the Christmas celebrations, has a strong humanitarian focus, as the proceeds from ticket sales are donated to one of the Foundation’s projects. This year, all funds raised will go to the Pulseras Blaugranas ('Barça Wristbands') programme, which aims to improve the long-term hospital stays of children and adolescents, as well as others living with serious illnesses.
In addition, and as has become customary at such sessions, the Foundation’s two robots, Pol and Joyce, were present on the pitch. These robots allow hospitalised children who are unable to travel to the ground to enjoy the same Barça experience through audio and video connections. The players approached the robots to chat with the children in hospital, who were able to follow the action of this charity training session live.
Visit to hospitalised children
Meanwhile, on Wednesday 7 January, as is tradition, the players and coaching staff of the women’s first team will carry out their annual visit to hospitals in Barcelona. Several club directors and members of the Foundation’s board of trustees will accompany them on this day, which brings joy to many children and young people undergoing hospital treatment.
