The FC Barcelona Foundation, in response to demand from some of the Club’s members, has launched a new initiative - the Charitable Legacy - to offer every fan of Barça, and especially the Club’s members, the opportunity to leave a timeless social legacy. This initiative makes it possible to donate part or all of your estate to the Barça Foundation, an organisation that for the past 30 years has been working to improve the lives of children and young people in a wide range of vulnerable situations, both in Catalonia and across the world. These include suffering from a serious illness, being a child refugee or migrant, living in poverty or enduring some form of violence, to name but a few.
The Charitable Legacy thus becomes a pioneering choice within the world of sport, opening up a new support stream for the Barça Foundation’s programs. A long-established tradition in English-speaking countries, this practice has already been embraced by other foundations in our sphere. This charitable initiative meets an increasing demand from people wishing to leave an enduring legacy to society via the Foundation of the Club they love, contributing to the “More than a club” ethos and strengthening FC Barcelona’s commitment to its role in social transformation through sport.
A simple, accessible and safe process
The Charitable Legacy process is easy, affordable and completely reversible. Any interested party can include in their will, made in front of a notary, their stated decision to leave all or part of their estate to the FC Barcelona Foundation. The cost of the process is approximately €50. The FC Barcelona Foundation will make free-of-charge legal advice available to those wishing to carry out this process, thus ensuring transparency and that all funds raised be used for its social and solidarity projects.
30 years making a social and sporting impact
Through this initiative, the Barça Foundation is reinforcing its position as one of the most influential sporting institutions in the social arena in Europe and the world.
The “More than a club” motto which defines Barça is made tangible by La Masia, the team’s style of play, by being a club which belongs to its members, by representing Catalonia, by being a multisport club, and also via FC Barcelona’s commitment to social causes through the Foundation. This year marks 30 years since FC Barcelona launched the Barça Foundation and it has been the Club’s “charitable arm” since 2004, with the Club committed to giving up to 0.7% of its regular income to enable the Foundation to drive real change in the lives of vulnerable children and young people in Catalonia and around the world, using sport and education as essential tools and with a particular focus on gender equality and diversity in all its forms.
