The Disciplinary Committee dismisses the complaint for improper alignment of Íñigo Martínez

The Committee confirms that there was no regulatory infraction and validates the official recall of the player by the RFEF

The RFEF Disciplinary Committee has resolved this Friday to dismiss the complaint of Club Atlético Osasuna regarding an alleged improper lineup of the player Íñigo Martínez in the match corresponding to the 27th matchday of LaLiga, played on 27 March 2025 between Osasuna and FC Barcelona.

The Navarrese club alleged that the Barça defender had violated article 5 of Annex I of the FIFA Regulations, which prevents a player who has been recalled for medical reasons from a national team from playing for his club during the five days following the international period. According to Osasuna, Íñigo Martínez participated in the match four days after the last commitment of the Spanish National Team, and this would infringe the aforementioned rule.

The key: the official cancellation

FC Barcelona argued in its allegations that the rule does not apply in this case because the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) made an official and written withdrawal of the player, duly communicated on March 17, 2025. This withdrawal, derived from an injury diagnosed as internal parameniscitis in the right knee, was accepted by the RFEF itself based on the Club's medical reports.

The Committee has confirmed that both the official email sent to the Club and the public statement published on the RFEF website clearly accredit the existence of the withdrawal, which "eliminates any restrictive effect derived from an international call-up", as established by precedents such as the resolution of the "Aloisi case" of 2004, ratified by various disciplinary bodies.

Resolution and closure of the case

In view of all the documentation and applicable jurisprudence, the Committee has decided:

“To dismiss the request made by Club Atlético Osasuna and declare the non-existence of an improper alignment of the player Íñigo Martínez in the match played on March 27, 2025.”

The resolution specifies that there is no financial sanction for either party and opens the door to appeal to the RFEF Appeal Committee within a maximum period of ten working days.

With this decision, FC Barcelona sees the correctness of its actions ratified and reaffirms its confidence in the Club’s medical and administrative management, as well as in the institutional collaboration with the competent bodies.
