Ever since FC Barcelona first team players proudly sported the UNICEF logo on their jerseys.

2006

The first ten years

In the first ten years of the partnership, FCB and UNICEF reached over 1 million children in 7 countries, providing access to sports and protection, with a focus on HIV.

2006 - 2016

Sport for Development

Sport for Development for Children was integrated into Ghana’s national Physical Education and Sports Policy. In South Africa, it is now compulsory for schools to have at least two hours of physical education on a weekly basis. In China, the partnership Child Friendly Spaces have been selected as a model for the National Education Action Plan.

2016

Innocenti

Partners engaged UNICEF’s Office of Research, Innocenti to conduct research to fill the evidence gap for S4D for children. 

2017

BEKO

FCB and Turkish consumer electronics manufacturer Beko launched a joint campaign #EatLikeAPro, involving the FC Barcelona players. The players encouraged healthy eating habits in a campaign that raised €1 million for UNICEF in 11 days to fund programmes tackling childhood obesity in Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador and Mexico, targeting 500,000 school children and their parents. 

2018

Sport for Development for Children Working Group

The partners have convened the multi-sectoral Sport for Development for Children Working Group to use the evidence for best practice to develop a framework for S4D for children by 2021. Efforts are focused on translating knowledge into policy, practice and recommendations for organizations and policymakers that develop and deliver programmes for children.

2019

UN General Assembly

Barça Foundation adresed a UNICEF event on sport for development for children at the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child at UN General Assembly - ”This is more than a partnership,  UNICEF is part of the Club’s DNA”.
