Robot Pol: a virtual guide for experiencing Barça in first person
A robot that makes the dreams of children in hospitals come true
The project, promoted by the Abidal Foundation and set up in 2017, allows children to live a first-person experience through a robot. The idea is based on the use of a device with audio and video connections with which children who are hospitalized or who are undergoing treatment from home get to enjoy the experience of visiting Barça through a robot that is remotely controlled by the child themself.
It all happens thanks to the AWABOT company that donated the robot, and is carried out with the collaboration and support of a team of partners and former player volunteers, who accompany the robot to the Museum, and to the child from their bed. Children from the hospitals with which the Foundation has an agreement benefit from this experience, namely: Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, Hospital Vall d'Hebron, Hospital Sant Pau, Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol, Hospital Parc Taulí in Sabadell and Children's Hospital of Barcelona as well as the Enriqueta Villavecchia Foundation.
Among other things, the sick children have been able to experience the moment the players take to the field before a Champions League match. Unique experiences that make them forget for about their illness a few moments. In the 2018-2019 season, a total of 113 children were able to enjoy the experience, and of these, 86% said they felt they were outside of the hospital.
