Barça Foundation distributes 248,000 masks and 8,000 goggles and face protectors from Chinese company Tencent
Second donation of material by Chinese tech giant distributed to Catalan hospitals and the Doctors Guild of Barcelona
The Barça Foundation is continuing to work to help as much as possible to deal with the health emergency caused by the spread of Covid-19. One of the main activities has been getting medical materials to Catalonia for distribution to different hospitals and health practitioners who are currently working to contain the pandemic.
A second delivery of medical material was received yesterday from the Tencent Technology Company Limited in China, through the Tencent Charity Foundation, which has sent the Barça Foundation 200,000 surgical masks for civilian use, 48,000 masks for medical use, 5,000 pairs of goggles for medical use and 3,000 face protectors.
This second donation from Tencent is the largest that the Foundation has received since the outbreak of the emergency, and follows a first assignment that arrived on April 14 of 15,000 items of personal protective equipment (PPE). It comes as part of the agreement established with the Barça Foundation following the launch of the 100 million dollar World Anti-Pandemic Fund this month by the Chinese tech company.
This program is part of a set of ventures being carried out by FC Barcelona and the Barça Foundation with its Chinese partners and collaborators to tackle the health emergency caused by the coronavirus.
This material has arrived in coordination with Miniclip, one of the TENCENT companies, through Miniclip Portugal, a world leader in digital games that are developed, published and distributed through mobile, social and online platforms.
Serveto, the Catalan logistics company that has been working with FC Barcelona since 2013 as a partner of its professional sports teams, is also contributing by voluntarily transporting all the material to different medical centres in Catalonia.
“At FC Barcelona, through the Barça Foundation, we are working every day to help with this pandemic that affects everyone by sourcing medical resources and equipment and supporting the most in need. We do so in association with other agents, and one of the most outstanding collaborations is the one we have set up with a corporation of such global magnitude as Tencent, the Chinese technology giant, which has sent us this second shipment, one of the largest we have received so far. That’s why I want to thank the Tencent Charity Foundation for the invaluable help that it is once again offering us, and which further showcases its commitment to helping with this crisis”.
