The work of the Barça Foundation was recognised at the 10th edition of the Peace & Sport Awards, as it received the prize for ‘Foundation of the Year’ for its work -especially for the support and aid project for refugees. This project is financed and features complete collaboration from the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

First vice-president of FC Barcelona and the Barça Foundation, Jordi Cardoner, accompanied by Barça Foundation director general, Maria Vallès, collected the award at an event in Monte Carlo, presided over by Prince Albert II of Monaco.

This recognition for the Barça Foundation highlights its work in the promotion of the protection and psycho-social support of children and young people who are refugees, and the undertaking of projects to improve the quality of life of those infants and adolescents, increasing the prevention and resolution of conflicts and improving inclusion and social integration.

Peace & Sports is an independent organisation with its headquarters in the Principality of Monaco, promoted by Prince Albert II. It works in areas around the world where communities have become distanced and traditional politics has not been able to establish dialogue, with the aim of reestablishing pacific relations. Its objective is to apply the structuring values of sport to the heart of these communities, and to people in crisis throughout the world.

This edition of the awards also saw nominations for the German Football Foundation and the PSG Foundation. The German contribution was the "Willkommen im fussball" (‘Welcome to Football’) initiative, through which they organise weekly training sessions and football tournaments with the aim of socially integrating young refugees. The PSG - Paris Saint-Germain Foundation was nominated thanks to its commitment to helping children in the most vulnerable neighbourhoods, integrating young people socially and professionally and giving support to those especially in need.

Quotes from Jordi Cardoner

“Receiving an international prize of such prestige for the work carried out by the Barça Foundation is recognition that will help us to keep working with even more excitement and intensity over the coming years. We are currently working in 53 countries around the world and have more than a million beneficiaries. In the case of our project with infants and young refugees, we are addressing one of the worst humanitarian crises this century. Our direct interventions with children and young refugees, with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, demonstrates every day that we can transform and help their situation through sport, values and our presence.”
