The FC Barcelona Foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Global Citizen this Thursday have presented the campaign 'Beat Extreme Poverty' with the aim of raising awareness of global problems and helping people to get involved in the battle to help end extreme poverty in the world.
The launch took place at the Hotel St.Regis in San Francisco in the presence of the first team player Arda Turan; Josep Maria Bartomeu, president of FC Barcelona; Tom Scott, director of the brand and the campaigns of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Hugh Evans, director general of Global Citizen and Kweku Mandela, Global Citizen ambassador and grandson of the former South African president..
2015: important point for global objectives
The FC Barcelona Foundation and the Gates Foundation have been working together since 2011 to help eradicate polio from the world. Now, with the addition of Global Citizen, the three organisations have come together to help publicise, both in person and online, the problem of poverty in the world. The FC Barcelona Foundation has already done work in this area in Catalonia, where for example it has helped with campaigns to promote food donations.
2015 sees the world's future at a crossroads. At the General Assembly of the United Nations which will take place next September world leaders will mark out global objectives to help eradicate poverty, inequality and climate change. Therefore, this three way agreement that has been presented today comes at a crucial moment to help publicise those objectives and to help gain the participation of society as a whole.
JOSEP MARIA BARTOMEU:
"FC Barcelona and its Foundation have always been aware of the problems that face our society. On a global scale, the eradication of extreme poverty is one of the great challenges. Barça has a commitment to help create a society more in touch with the problems that affect people and this is a great opportunity to draw attention to this situation. Doing so with the Gates Foundation and Global Citizen is a guarantee of success."
"Barça is a great family and I am very happy to be here because really it is the best team in the world."
What is Global Citizen?
Global Citizen is a content and campaign platform through which citizens can find out more about the great problems facing the world and how they can help to solve them. Global Citizen counts on the support of some of the best organisations who are working to help end extreme poverty and they believe that each citizen has a role to play to help end this problem in the next 15 years.
