The Foundation launches a publicity campaign with the objective of raising its profile amongst Barça members
Graphic image of the campaign
Coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the FC Barcelona Foundation, a new publicity campaign under the slogan ‘Barça reaches out to everyone’ has been launched with the objective of promoting their social work and projects amongst the FC Barcelona members. The campaign consists of two videos and six creative graphics which outline the mission of the Foundation’s projects, i.e. the spreading of positive values through sport amongst young people.
In recent times the Foundation has built up an impressive portfolio of projects and international collaborations. ‘FutbolNet’, ‘Barçakids’ and ‘We are what we eat’ are the main programmes that promote values (respect, strength, teamwork, modesty and ambition) and healthy habits. This social work is possible thanks to strategic collaborations with Unicef, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Pies Descalzos Foundation, the Leo Messi Foundation, the Instituto Projeto Neymar Jr and the Rafa Márquez Foundation. To that list we can add recent collaborations with Scholas and the Johan Cruyff Foundation as well agreements with Reach Out to Asia (ROTA) and the Edmilson and Thuram Foundations.
Strengthening understanding with Unicef
Every the Club, through the FC Barcelona Foundation, contribute 1.5 million Euros to Unicef every year towards communal social projects. At the moment such projects are being carried out in China, Brazil, Ghana and South Africa with the aim of promoting education via sport.
This year the collaboration between the two organisations has been strengthened through the ‘1in11’ project which has raised more than 3 million Euros for Unicef that will be used to promote educational projects in Bangladesh, Indonesia and Nepal. As such this season Barça will contribute a total of 4.5 million Euros to the United Nations organisation.
Rise in beneficiaries, geographical reach and budget
In the last few years the Foundation has seen a great increase in all round figures. Right now the FC Barcelona Foundation projects help more than 400,000 benficiaries (children and youngsters principally) in more than 40 countries around the world. Projects in Catalonia have also been strengthened notably with the Foundation now active in over 70 areas of the country.
With regards to budget the Foundation is also progressing. In the season 2008/09 it had a budget of 5.5 million Euros and now in 2014/15 the budget is a predicted 10 million Euros. Since 2006, the Club diverts up to 0.7% of its earnings to the Foundation and from 2010 all the professional sports staff have contributed 0.5% of their wages to social projects.
The emblem on the shirt of the sections
This new initiative from the Foundation has been complemented by the incorporation of the organisation’s emblem into the first team shirts of the professional sections. It is a pioneering move approved by the Board of Directors in February and one that gives the Foundation greater visibility both at home and abroad.
