FC Barcelona would like to pass on their condolences to the family of the writer and journalist Eduardo Galeano who has passed away this Monday at the age of 74 in his home town of Montevideo, Uruguay.
A passionate follower of football, Galeano was awared the VII Manuel Vázquez Montalbán International Award for Journalism in the category of sports writing. The prize is organised by the FC Barcelona Foundation and the Catalan College of Journalists.
The jury commented at the time that they were awarding the prize to Galeano for “having given a literary touch to the field of journalism.” During his prolific writing career the Uruguayan was probably best known in the English speaking world for his book ‘Football in Sun and Shadow’ published in 1995, which has since become a classic of its genre.
