Former FC Barcelona players visit refugees in Greece

Several former blaugrana players met with refugees in Ioannina

Several former FC Barcelona players visited a clinic of 220 refugees from the region of Ioannina, Greece, as well as visiting one of eight refugee camps that are in the area.

The day was organized by the Barça Players Association in collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and with the support of PAS Giannina CF.

The aim of the conference that was led by former FC Barcelona players was to stand in solidarity with refugees and asylum seekers in Greece, raising funds for their protection and assistance, and to recognise the efforts of the host town. The conference is held within the framework of the actions promoted by the FC Barcelona Foundation and the Club in aid to refugees arriving in Europe.

The delegation of the Barça Players Association, made up of former players and led by president Ramon Alfonseda, visited the refugee camp named Katsikas in Ioannina, which hosts nearly 50,000 people who currently live as refugees in Greece. Later, they organized a sports camp for 220 boys and girls on one of the eight fields in the region.

The day will culminate this afternoon with a charity match between veterans of PAS Giannina and the former blaugrana players, which will be played at the stadium Zosimades Ioannina
