Details of Barça's visit to the Vatican
A delegation from FC Barcelona will travel to Rome this Thursday in order to sign a collaborative agreement between the FC Barcelona Foundation with the social organisation Scholas Occurentes to develop projects jointly that promote positive values amongst young people.
The blaugrana party will be led by president Josep Maria Bartomeu, vice president Jordi Cardoner, the vice presidents of the FC Barcelona Foundation Ramon Pont and Ramon Cierco and the director Pau Vilanova.
The activity will begin at 1.00pm (CET) with a visit to the Vatican City. First on the agenda will be the signing of the agreement between the two organisations during the IV Scholas Occurentes Congress. Following that the delegation will have the chance for a private meeting with Pope Francis. During the events, a video will be unveiled that includes contributions from Barça players Javier Mascherano, Luis Suárez and Marc Bartra and underlines the first team’s commitment to the Foundation’s social projects. The meeting with the pontiff will signal the end of the day’s activities.
Scholas Occurentes is a social organisation of the Vatican that was set up by Pope Francis during his time as the Archibishop of Buenos Aires. Its principal aim is to create worldwide network of schools and currently it has 400,000 centres operating with whom to share educational projects and knowledge. The entity’s aims are therefore in total concordance with the aims of the FC Barcelona Foundation, whose objectives centre on the promotion of education and positive values, especially amongst young people.
