Project forms part of eight-year agreement between FCB Foundation and Obra Social "la Caixa", and also the support of global pop sensation Shakira's foundation

The vice-president of FC Barcelona and the FCB Foundation, Jordi Cardoner, the singer and founder of Fundación Pies Descalzos, Shakira Mebarak, and the director of the Commercial and Educational Area of the Fundación Bancaria “la Caixa”, Xavier Bertolín, presented on Tuesday the partnership agreement between the three organisations to build a new school in Barranquilla. Colombia.

This follows on from six that are already operational in the country (Barranquilla, Cartagena, Soacha and Quibdó), and which are achieving highly successful academic results and having a positive effect on the at-risk zones in which they are located.

The initiative forms part of the eight-year partnership between the Fundación Bancaria ”la Caixa” and the FC Barcelona Foundation whereby 600,000 euros are used to promote top quality and innovative education projects and actions, based in personal values and competences. Of this amount, 400,000 euros are being used to create the Institución Educativa Pies Descalzos Nuevo Bosque, for a total of 1.2 million euros, in one of the most under-privileged districts of Barranquilla, El Bosque, where delinquency is high and where in 2016, 25.7 % of the population was considered to be at risk.
