Children fill the President Suñol Box to commemorate FC Barcelona’s 10-year alliance with UNICEF
Children who have been beneficiaries of projects carried out by the FCB Foundation and UNICEF were in the spotlight ahead of Saturday’s La Liga game against Málaga at Camp Nou, where they took part in a symbolic act to commemorate the Club’s 10-year partnership with UNICEF. More than 140 boys and girls filled the President Suñol Box, sharing the honorary space at Camp Nou with a small delegation of representatives from Barça, UNICEF, and Málaga. Images of the event were widely disseminated by the Club’s communications channels and on the Club’s official social media accounts, which have more than 250 million followers.
The children, who were between 8 and 14 years of age, enjoyed a unique experience usually reserved for people over 14 years of age. The Málaga game was chosen because of its proximity to Universal Children's Day, which takes place annually on 20 November, an event that commemorates the adoption by the United Nations in 1989 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the international treaty that established children’s rights.
This event is part of the celebration commemorating Barça’s 10 years with UNICEF, and is accompanied by a campaign called 'The Triumph of Dreams', driven by both organisations to highlight their firm commitment to this agreement on behalf of vulnerable children and in support of sport as a way to foment development.
The campaign includes a video featuring Lionel Messi, Neymar, Javier Mascherano, Luis Enrique and some of the children who have benefitted from the alliance, and uses the idea of dreams to equate FC Barcelona’s sporting triumphs in recent years to its social achievements with regard to children around the world, made possible thanks to this alliance.
Before the game, the children participated in various workshops, among which was the ‘Trophy of Dreams Factory’, where the children were able to build a trophy with their own hands.
The President Suñol Box, for a day, became the ‘Children’s Box’, and it was adapted for the occasion, with no shortage chocolate and sweets available. The children had their photos taken with FC Barcelona President, Josep Maria Bartomeu and the First Vice President, Jordi Cardoner.
After the game, at 6.45pm, activities will move to the Auditori 1899, where the children will continue to be the stars of the evening. They will be greeted there by representatives of the Club and UNICEF, and will have the opportunity to ask questions that they have prepared in anticipation of this symbolic day.
Statement from Jordi Cardoner:
“Today the Presidential Box seemed a very different place, an image that will be seen around the world and demonstrates the importance of our agreement with UNICEF, to whom we are very grateful. Barça has always been different and an event such as this makes us so, and places the Cub on the world stage."
