Olympafrica: joint program of the Barça Foundation and the International Olympic Committee
An initiative with a major educational and inclusive component
Since 2013, the Barça Foundation, the International Olympic Committee and the Olympafrica Foundation have been working together to foster the values of sport among African children. It is thanks to the Olympafrica Foundation's hard work that the program is being run in extracurricular format at its community centres on a regular basis in 12 countries: Senegal, Mali, Burundi, Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Lesotho, Zimbabwe, Gambia, Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Niger and Togo. In each specific country, the FutbolNet methodology is implemented in the most popular sports in each region in order to emphasize local culture, for example: Korfball, Maracanà, Volleyball, Athletics, Basketball, Football, among others.
One of the great things about the program is that it has a such a strong educational component, while also being inclusive and having a gender focus. Therefore, it allows progress in aspects such as equality between women and men and the prevention of aggressive behaviour both in sports activities and in everyday life in the community.
